The world sound, or Aum as it is also known, is a sound that connects the entire world, and is one of the preferred focal points for Tibetan monks, among others, when they meditate. Therefore, this is an obvious symbol for an incense holder.
The incense holder is smart because the incense sticks are placed at an angle in the holder, so the ash lands on the plate under the incense, and is therefore easy to clean. The angle at which the incense is placed is also optimal in terms of burning speed.
